The summer for a lot of us means trips to the beach, fishing, golf, barbecues, blockbuster movies and/or outdoor concerts. But for student athletes, it's a time to focus completely on their craft and get in the gym to get stronger and faster for the next season. For college baseball players, they have the added opportunity to play summer ball to compete against their peers and many Monarchs did just that.

Tracking our guys play in summer ball can be difficult. Some teams do a good job with sharing their roster and stats. But not all. Some players play the entire summer season with their teams. But not all. Some players are done already, some have not even started. So we're going to do the work for you and update you on the guys who are playing summer ball and give you their stats so far.

The Returners

The Peninsula Pilots (Coastal Plain League)

The Pilots play out of historic War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Virginia, and have a long history of hosting Monarchs on their roster. Right now, three ODU players are donning the Pilots jersey:

  • Macaddin Dye: Dye is absolutely tearing it up at the plate. In 39 at-bats, he’s hitting a blistering .359 and slugging .590, racking up six doubles and a home run.

  • Tyler Zedalis: While the Pilots have played 17 games already, Tyler just joined the team earlier this week. He’s struggled so far, striking out nine times in 16 at bats. But I'd expect him to find his groove, as we know he's a much better hitter than these limited numbers show.

  • Jackson Runyon: Runyon has been reliable on the mound, sporting a clean 3.00 ERA through his first six innings of work.

The Pilots have plenty of home games left before their season wraps up in late July. Tickets are affordable, the atmosphere is great, and it’s the perfect spot to cheer on our guys!

Cam Tellefsen | Winchester Royals (Valley League)

After redshirting during the 2025-26 school year, Tellefsen is gearing up for his second season with the Monarchs. Playing alongside former teammates Brody Connors and JJ Hand in Winchester, the Landstown High product is flashing serious power. Out of his 17 total hits, 11 have been for extra bases (five home runs and six doubles). While he's carrying a strong .298 batting average, strikeouts have been an issue (27 Ks in 57 at-bats). If he can cut down on the swing-and-miss, he has the tools to make an impact next spring. If you'd like to check out the Royals this summer, click here for their full schedule.

Jackson Okonkwo | Norfolk Mermaids (Mid-Atlantic Collegiate League)

Okonkwo is coming off a true freshman season that showed both his immense potential and the expected growing pains of Division I pitching (14 appearances, 6.34 ERA, 18 Ks). His highlight was a brilliant 4-inning scoreless appearance against Coastal Carolina to help lead us to a 9-2 win. This summer, Okonkwo is staying local with the Mermaids who host their home games at Granby High School, but with a twist: he’s only hitting, not pitching. Stats on the Mermaids are hard to come by, but you can visit this website to see the full schedule for all of the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate League.

The Newcomers

Davis Albert | Clayton Clovers (Old North State League)

A shortstop transfer from Brunswick Community College (who also spent time at Campbell), Albert is coming off a very good JuCo season where he hit .280 with six homers, 30 RBIs, and an impressive .388 on-base percentage. He has carried that pop to summer ball; five of his 11 hits for the Clovers have gone for extra bases, including two home runs. Visit the Clovers' site for home and away details.

Harlan Rowe | Wenatchee AppleSox (West Coast League)

Rowe joins ODU from Lower Columbia College in Washington state. While labeled a pitching prospect, Rowe made his name in JuCo as an elite Designated Hitter, racking up a .297 average, a .464 OBP, and a trophy case full of honors (including Wesco MVP and All-NWAC Tournament Team). That trend has continued in summer ball; he has made just one appearance on the mound for the AppleSox but has already logged 12 at-bats. He will be an incredibly interesting addition to watch.

Short Stints & Early Arrivals

A couple of pitching transfers made brief summer appearances before heading to Norfolk to begin workouts with their new teammates:

  • Patrick Dudley (South Carolina): The former All-Everything Ace of Atlantic Shores pitched twice for the Charlottesville TomSox (Valley League) before returning home to the 757 to workout with the team.

  • Liam Stewart (Shenandoah University): The former Division III All-American made two appearances on the bump for the Tri-City Chili Peppers (Coastal Plain League) before arriving on campus to get to work.

There is still plenty of summer ball left to play. If you get a chance over the next few weeks,  we encourage you to head out to the ballpark and support these guys in person. Watching the future of ODU baseball compete with other college talent is a great way to enjoy the summer.
